Truth Brings Freedom
TODAY’S PASSAGE
Isaiah 11:1-4 (ESV)
There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit. 2 And the Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the LORD. 3 And his delight shall be in the fear of the LORD. He shall not judge by what his eyes see, or decide disputes by what his ears hear, 4 but with righteousness he shall judge the poor, and decide with equity for the meek of the earth…
SOLOMON IN ALL HIS WISDOM… WAS A MERE SHADOW OF CHRIST
1. One of the most popular books in the Bible is the book or Proverbs because it is full of practical wisdom… Proverbs 11:14; 26:14
2. Proverbs was written by Solomon who was considered one of the wisest people to ever live… Proverbs 1:1; 1 Kings 3:5-14; 10:1-5
3. Solomon’s wisdom ultimately points us forward to someone better!
4. God promised to send a King who would be full of knowledge, wisdom and understanding… Isaiah 11:1-4
CHRIST IS THE KING GOD PROMISED… AND THE VERY SOURCE OF TRUTH.
1. Little did anyone know that the coming messiah would be the very source of truth… John 14:6; Colossians 2:1-3
2. The source of all the wisdom, knowledge, and understanding we see from Genesis - Revelation finds its source in Christ.
3. Sadly, people spend their entire lives looking for the source of truth in all the wrong places!
4. The truth brings freedom… for example… freedom of anxiety… 1 Peter 5:7
DON’T LET YOURSELF BE ENSLAVED AGAIN!
1. There are teachers today who want Christians to return to their “Hebrew Roots” just like the Judizers in the 1st century… Galatians 2:11-13
2. Circumcision is ultimately fulfilled in Christ… Romans 2:28-29; Colossians 2:11
3. The Passover is ultimately fulfilled in Christ… 1 Corinthians. 11:23-26
4. The Sabbath is ultimately fulfilled in Christ… Colossians 2:16-17
