Who is Jesus?

Jesus is the central focus of the entire Bible from beginning to end. The Old Testament points forward to Jesus through prophecy and historical episodes that point to our need for a savior to come. The New Testament recounts his life, teachings, death, resurrection, promise to come again, and how the church began to spread the good news about Jesus to the ends of the earth.

To understand who Jesus is, simply look to God’s own description found in Mark 1:10-11. After Jesus was baptized, we read,

”And when he came up out of the water, immediately he saw the heavens being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. And a voice came from heaven, “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.”

— Mark 1:10-11 (ESV)

Not only is Jesus the Son of God, but he is also the only way to salvation from sin. On the night of His arrest, Jesus told his disciples,

“I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

— John 14:6 (ESV)

There is so much more to the answer of who Jesus is. Suffice it to say that Jesus is the one true son of God, the second person of the Holy Trinity. He came to Earth, fully God and fully Human, to teach and save His people. He who was sinless was crucified, paying the debt of our sins so that we could be saved. He rose from the grave and ascended to Heaven until the day he will return to claim His throne over the new Heaven and Earth.

Salvation from your sins is possible by grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone (Ephesians 2:8-9).
