THE TRUTH AND FEAR!
KEY PASSAGE
Matthew 6:25-34 ESV… Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27 And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? 28 And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, 29 yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31 Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. 34 “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.
THE ONE ISSUE WE ALL KNOW WELL… FEAR!
We are set free from the PENALTY, POWER AND PRESENCE of sin.
We all know what it is to be afraid… It's like a “universal language”!
The call to “fear not” is all throughout the Bible… Joshua 1:9; Isaiah 41:10
Jesus offers his children a peace that can’t be found in this world… John 14:27
DO NOT BE ANXIOUS ABOUT YOUR LIFE
Jesus had much to say about fear (and worry) in the Sermon on the Mount… Mt. 6:25-34
Our lives are more valuable than the food and clothes needed to sustain it… Psalm 139:14
If God takes care of birds… he’ll take care of us… Mt. 6:26-27; Prov 12:25
Even Solomon did not have the splendor of the lilies of the field…. Mt. 6:28-30
GOD KNOWS WHAT WE NEED… EVEN BETTER THAN WE DO!
God knows what we need better than even we do… Mt. 6:31-32
Too often we approach God as if he doesn't know what’s happening in our lives!
Non-believers waste their lives chasing after batteries… Mt. 6:32
Believers have been called to a much higher calling!
BELIEVERS ARE CALLED TO SEEK FIRST THE KINGDOM OF GOD
A life well lived… is a life well spent. There is no better way to spend your time than seeking the things of God…. Mt. 6:33; Colossians 3:1-2
When we seek Him first, he will provide what we need… Mt. 6:33
When Jesus fed the multitudes there was always enough for his disciples as well!
We shouldn’t presume about the future with unnecessary fear or worry… Mt. 6:34
